NEW TRENDS IN FLOORING
Glass tile as a flooring application?
Yes it can be done! I was introduced to this fairly new concept at the 2009 IDEX NEOCON show in September and recently met with the vendor to learn a little more about the product line.
Interstyle ceramic+glass has introduced a new product line called STRATUS, which is an inspired collection of decorative prints fused on glass tile for residential floor and wall applications. The line includes eight different styles/prints which range from organic to more linear patterns and colours to suit any style. They offer the standard sizes including 12"x12" and 16"x16" tiles and also offer 8"x12", 8"x16" and 12"x16" for select tiles.
Glass tiles became very popular as a wall application in the late 1990's and since have come a long way. Its popularity can be attributed to the recent technological breakthroughs and the materials ability to reflect and play with different lighting applications. By far it is one of my favorite materials to use in mostly kitchen and bathroom renovations but with the new introduction of the STRATUS collection I can definitely see it being incorporated into entrance foyers or in small power rooms. If your unsure of using it as an entire flooring application, try using small amounts of it as an accent, perhaps an inlay or a border. Whatever you decide to do with it, I can guarantee this concept will take your design to a whole new level!
